The Otago Highlanders officially called as the Highlanders, is a New Zealand professional rugby union team, played every season in Super Rugby competition. The Highlanders are pulling their team from the South Island regions of Otago, North Otago, and Southland.
The Highlanders were named after them, because Otago, North Otago, and Southland were established by Scottish emigrants in the 1840s and 1850s. The name Highlanders is reminiscent of loyalty, strength, honesty, and hard work.
The team’s logo shows a rampant Highlander, holding a shield in one hand and waving Claymore in the other, symbolizing both defense and offense.
Highlander’s team used to play in Dunedin Town. Their home stadium is called Carisbrook. Although affectionately called the House of Pain locally, they have moved to the new Forsyth Barr Stadium.
