2022 Currie Cup Fixtures

SA Rugby has declared the 2022 Currie Cup Season, which will begin in the mid of January with a seven-team Premier Division.

The decision was made on Friday at the SA Rugby General Council meeting when the Council dismissed the Eastern Province's proposal to join the top flight instantly.

Though, a proposal was accepted to automatically promote the best South African teams in the First Division to the Premier Division at the end of the 2022 season, thereby creating an eight-team Premier Division in 2023

Furthermore, the newly promoted will have a firm foothold within two seasons (until the end of the Currie Cup season in 2024), when the bottom-most team in the Premier League will be automatically relegated to the top South African team in the First Division. Before being promoted/relegated at the end of the 2026 season, once again ensure their position in the top competitions of the two seasons.

The 2022 Currie Cup event will begin on the weekend of January 14-15. It is due to the South African domestic rugby calendar being readjusted to coincide with the Northern Hemisphere season after the four teams entered the Vodacom United Rugby Championship.

This modification means that Currie Cup final will take place on Saturday, 25 June 2022, marking the end of the season for senior professional players who will play in the URC and Currie Cup.

The First Division Currie Cup fixtures will be announced in the next year.
